When I decided that I wanted to change my lifestyle and start reducing all the toxins going into my body I was so pumped and excited. I started researching all the things I needed to do to clear out the toxins from my products and cleaners and food and all throughout my home. I wanted to do everything all at once. I realized pretty quickly this was very unrealistic! Unless I wanted to make a giant investment in all the changes I wanted to make I would have to take one area at a time. But there were many things I could do inexpensively to start out and these ten things seriously changed my health within the first month...

  1. Cleaner Air -Open windows more often, have real plants in your home, dust and vacuum more often. Eventually I'd like to invest in an air filter.

  2. Drink filtered water in a stainless steel bottle -if your fridge doesn't have one, you can purchase a water filtering pitcher to keep in the fridge and a stainless steel water bottle and use this throughout the day.

  3. Sweat - do a form of exercise that causes you to sweat. Sweat carries out so many toxins from our body that otherwise are hard to clear out. Clearing out these otherwise hard to eliminate toxins can dramatically improve our overall health and wellbeing.

  4. Stop reaching for processed (cupboard foods) - instead eat foods that need to be in the fridge or counter. Cook with whole fresh foods not canned and boxed.

  5. Get rid of fragrances - no more products with fragrances. I cleared out all my air fresheners, candles, perfumes, lotions and any product that has added fragrance. These are toxic to our bodies. Instead you can use essential oils and a diffuser. There are also non-toxic candle options and non-toxic air freshener options.

  6. Get rid of harmful cleaning supplies - I put all of my toxic harmful cleaners in a box and put it in the garage (just in case) but ended up throwing them out because they are not necessary. I will be writing a whole post about this very soon but you can clean virtually everything with baking soda, vinegar, and castile soap. I replaced all my household cleaners, laundry soap, dish soap, hand soap, and more using one or a combination of these three very inexpensive non-toxic products. This not only helps me to be non-toxic but also keeps my home more minimalistic, which I am all about!

  7. Replace hand soaps/body soap - We wash our hands and bodies so much. So many soaps have added coloring and fragrances and harmful chemicals that our body has to try to get rid of. If you purchase foaming hand soap dispensers and fill them almost full of water, add a half inch of castile soap and mix, you will create your very own, very cheap, wonderfully smelling, completely non-toxic, soft, foaming hand soap. (You can also add a few drops of essential oil) Its amazing and my favorite thing ever. You can also use this bottle of goodness to wash not only your hands but also yourself and your children in the shower/bath. I will put links to foaming soap dispensers and castile soap at the end of this post.

  8. Face Cleaner - no more face wash! The greatest thing I have done for my face is start using a microfiber towel and good ol water to clean my face morning and night. If I have stubborn makeup I use a little jojoba oil to rub it off and then use the towel to clean the oil off. The towel also exfoliates your skin as well! Then moisturize right afterwards. I will also link below a great option for microfiber face towels.

  9. Bye bye scented moisturizer - this was one of the harder ones for me but I got rid of all my scented body lotions and moisturizes. These have so many additives and are putting toxins right into our skin! There are many better options out there just read ingredients and make sure there are no added fragrances.

  10. Toothpaste and deodorant - these are also very important things to swap out with better options of products we are using in and on our bodies. A great brand I highly recommend for adult and children's toothpaste is Risewell. We've chosen to opt out of fluoride and all the other harmful additives in most toothpaste brands and it makes a big difference in our oral health as well as our body not receiving these toxins. Deodorant can be tricky to find what works for you and also have it be non-toxic. Some of the best brands I've seen are Just Ingredients, Pretty Frank, Primally Pure, Earth Mama, and Pure Haven.

These ten steps have made already such a great impact in my health. If you read my previous post you know I was getting sick so often and feeling down all the time, low energy and so many other symptoms preventing me from feeling well and living my best life. My energy is up, my skin has improved, my hair is growing, and I do not get sore throats hardly every anymore. (Used to be literally every day) I am so happy to share what has helped me and hopefully can inspire you as well. We only get one body and we need to be careful of what is going into it so it can work at optimal levels for us. One step at a time.

Keep progressing!
